    Women's Health

    Incontinence

    Goals:
    • Muscle re-education (abdominal and pelvic floor)
    • Retraining of activities that stress your pelvic floor muscles
    • Postural education
    • Changing diet to avoid bladder irritants
    • Bladder retraining

    Services:
    Treatment sessions last approximately one hour for two to four weeks. Following a comprehensive evaluation, sessions consist of:

    • Biofeedback
    • Electrical stimulation
    • Muscle re-education
    • Functional activities of daily living alternatives
    • Spinal and pelvic malalignment corrections

    Pregnancy and Postpartum

    Goals:
    • Decrease back pain
    • Decrease headaches
    • Decrease pubic symphysis pain

    Services:
    Treatment sessions last approximately one hour for two to four weeks. Following a comprehensive evaluation, sessions consist of:

    • Muscle Energy Technique
    • Soft tissue mobilization
    • Therapeutic exercises
    • Postural alignment training

    Osteoperosis

With today's knowledge, research, and expertise, we have been able to demonstrate that women's rehabilitation works - and improves quality of life. The result? Patient's who participate in women's health services get better faster and progress to a higher level of function.

    Osteoporosis is a condition involving thinning of the bones with the possibility of bone fracture due to this thinning. An indicator of this condition is a DEXA (type of x-ray) number of minus 2.5 or lower.

    Risk factors for osteoporosis

    • Not getting enough calcium and vitamin D
    • Smoking and heavy alcohol consumption
    • A small frame
    • Not exercising on a regular basis or engaging in weight-bearing activities
    • Family history of osteoporosis

    Prevention and Precaution

    • Precautions can be taken to limit the complications that can occur as a result of having osteoporosis.
    • Speak with your physician about appropriate medications or supplements.
    • Assess your home and work place for any risk factors that may place you at greater risk for falls.
    • Contact a physical therapist to assist you in beginning an exercise program tailored to and taking into consideration factors relating to your diagnosis.
    • Be diligent and aware of your posture and body mechanics throughout all aspects of your life.
    • Stop smoking and limit your alcohol consumption.
