Multiple Trauma Rehabilitation Program
Multiple Trauma involved as least two orthopedic injuries, medical injuries or fractures caused by a trauma. Most multiple traumas are caused by motor vehicle accidents and falls from heights. HealthSouth of Mechanicsburg's Multiple Trauma Program provides the comprehensive medical, therapeutic, educational, and support services patients need to reach their maximum level of functional independence.
Who Should be Referred?
HealthSouth's Multiple Trauma Program is designed for individuals with multi-trauma, hip fractures, and medical injuries that contribute to limitation in functional areas.
Program Components
Using an interdisciplinary approach that focuses on adjustment, support, education, skill achievement, and reintegration into the community, the program includes:
- Comprehensive Evaluations (by all treatment team members)
- Comprehensive Medical Management
- Mobility, home, and community skills training
- Self care training
- Use of therapeutic modalities
- Home safety assessment
- Case Management
- Weekly Teem Meeting/Family Conference (as needed)
- Leisure Skills and Vocational Assessments (as needed)
- Comprehensive Outpatient Services
Goals
Inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation focuses on
improving:
- Mobility
- Balance
- Strength
- Range of Motion
- Gait
- Activities of Daily Living
Patient's dealing with Multiple Trauma are also typically struggling with the shock of the accident. They usually need not only physical rehabilitation but also psychosocial support.
HealthSouth's Multiple Trauma Rehabilitation Program is designed to address the physical and emotional needs of these patients as they progress through the rehabilitation process, improve their strength, self-esteem and confidence, and ultimately return to the community.
Services
HealthSouth has an interdisciplinary team approach to the rehabilitation of orthopedic patients. Led by a physiatrist, the team is comprised of rehabilitation nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists, and case managers.
